Press Release – Female friendships are one of the most special connections in life. Girlfriends enjoy getting together, laughing, and sharing secrets. Women are there for each other during times of need especially during our era of COVID-19. The pandemic has created outstanding hardship for women around the world.

The economic impact of working moms’ coronavirus-related juggling act has been estimated at $341 billion. Not only are women and working moms balancing a plethora of responsibilities as the lines between career and parenthood are indefinitely blurred with shelter-in-place, they are also fearing for their jobs—approximately 60% of the jobs eliminated in the first wave of pandemic-induced layoffs were held by women.

In such environment, to talk with a girlfriend can be priceless.

The Healing power of Girlfriends

“I cherish each relationship with my gal pals and celebrate each one for the special part it plays in my life journey,” says Deborah Olson, a women’s emotional health specialist in the Houston area. She says she is often asked, How can I make new friends? How do I keep my friendships alive when we don’t live in the same state anymore? How can I avoid toxic friendships? How can I nurture my existing friendships?

Olson’s desire to help women form new friendship inspired her to write the book The Healing Power of Girlfriends: How to Create Your Best Life Through Female Connection.

The book shares ideas and suggestions on how to avoid toxic friendships, nurture existing friendships, and maintain long-distance friendships, and it teaches women how to make new friends at any age or stage in life.

In Chapter 4 of The Healing Power of Girlfriends, Olson writes, “Planning our time with friends and honoring how they are most comfortable socializing with us is imperative to the ongoing success of and satisfaction with the friendship.”

Amazon Book notes about the book about the Healing Power of Girlfriends:

Women thrive on connection, and research studies continue to show that we are happier and healthier when we share close connections with other women. In this engaging combination of personal anecdotes, scientific research, and therapeutic advice, you’ll learn

  • why connection, communication, and intimacy are the three pillars of healthy friendships.
  • how friendship between women leads to longevity, health, happiness, and well-being.
  • why some friendships are only for a specific “season or reason.”
  • how the Olson Friendship Framework can help you understand the levels of all your friendships from casual to intimate.
  • tips for nurturing your current friendships and creating new ones.

Each chapter also includes a list of thought-provoking discussion questions that will help you further examine the heart and soul of your own friendships with women.

The Healing Power of Friendship will help you avoid toxic friendships, understand the role expectations play in women’s friendships, and learn how power dynamics can hurt or heal these special relationships.
