Clothing chain Uniqlo is expanding their collaboration with Hana Tajima, which was originally designed for Muslim women
Clothing company Uniqlo will launch a new collection, a collaboration with British designer Hana Tajima, in Japan later this June. The collection was originally launched in Southeast Asia last year, and it featured loose silhouette designs aimed at appealing to Muslim women.
The line quickly became a hit in the region; therefore, Uniqlo and Tajima have decided to also test the collection’s popularity in predominantly non-Muslim countries.
With the help of Uniqlo, Tajima created the LifeWear collection, which includes hijabs, trousers and loose-fit tops. The collection has already been expanded to U.S. and U.K markets, and Uniqlo is now preparing to also launch the Tajima collection in China, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Australia. The company also plans to produce videos to teach non-Muslim customers how to wear certain clothes.
Tadashi Yanai, chairman and president of Uniqlo operator Fast Retailing, said traditional, modest clothes can inspire new fashions. He wishes to repeat the success by developing partnerships with other talented designers from around the world.
“We aim to provide the best clothes in the world by leveraging our global network, as well as our capability to plan, make, and sell products,” Yanai said.
