I wait for this month every year. Ramadan is different. I can understand when Rumi, Persian mystic poet says “let your belly off food, to see God’s light.” I can see more of God’s light in my heart during Ramadan.
I learned that 30 days is too short to create and hold God’s light in my heart. I usually try to start a few days early each year.
I assume that you, my dearest beautiful reader, are Muslim or know the Islamic tradition. Therefore, I do not need to explain the whole mantra about Ramadan and what we do in this month. For this month, I’m planning to read the Quran more religiously, sit in longer meditations, be kinder toward the people I see and know, be more patient with situations, not lie, and eat less food.
I also want to listen more, talk less, read more, walk more, and enjoy the spiritual silence I create around me. Insha’Allah!
My prayers for you are the Loving Kindness prayers.
May you be at peace
May you be loved
May you feel God’s light in your heart
May your soul be lifted
May you be kind
May you be grateful for the things you have
May you be healthy
May you be happy
Day 1,Oh Allah, Awaken me from my sleep |
Allah, on this day, make my fast the fast of those who fast sincerely, and my prayer the prayer of those who stand in worship wholeheartedly. Awaken me from my sleep and forgive my sins. O God of the universe and the afterlife who forgives sinners, forgive me.
Day 2,Allah, Guide me toward what makes you happy |
O Allah, on this month, guide me toward what makes you happy; keep me away from Your anger and punishment; grant me the opportunity to recite the holy Quran. O the most merciful.
Day 3,Allah, Grant me wisdom |
Allah, on this day, grant me wisdom and awareness; keep me away from ridicule; grant me a share in every blessing you send down with your generosity. O the most generous.
Day 4,Allah, Protect me |
Allah, give me strength to carry out your commands; let me taste the sweet taste of remembering you; grant me to thank you; protect me with your protection and mercy. O the most discerning of those who see.
Day 5,Allah, Place me among your best people |
Allah, place me among those who seek forgiveness; place me among your righteous and obedient servants; place me among your close friends. O, the most kind and the most merciful.
Day 6,Allah, Fulfill my wish |
Allah, on this day, do not let me humiliate myself by disobeying you; do not strike me with the whip of your punishment; keep me away from the causes of your anger. O the almighty, fulfill my wish and those who desire You.
Day 7,Allah, help my fasting |
Allah, help me with fasting and prayers; keep me away from mistakes and sins; grant me to continue remembering you throughout the day. O the one who guides those who stray.
Happy Ramadan
