Iranian journalists Niloofar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi Win Journalism Awards at Harvard University

Harvard University awards Nilloofar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi, two brave journalists who broke the story of #mahsaamini’s murder at the hands of Iran’s regime

The Iranian regime fabricated accusations against the two unlawfully detained female journalists. The two face severe punishments without access to due process.

Niloofar and Elahe stood with Mahsa Amini’s family regardless of the risks to themselves. In doing so, they awakened the consciousness of the world and shook the regime’s foundation. Nieman Foundation at Harvard University awards Niloofar and Elahe for its 2023 Louis M. Lyons Award for Conscience and Integrity in Journalism.

I think this is a victory for many Iranian journalists inside Iran who risk their lives to bring truth and facts to the people of Iran and the world.

Congratulations to both Niloofar and Elahe. I hope they learn about this award in prison.

Hamedi is a reporter for the Tehran-based Shargh Daily. Mohammadi is a reporter for the daily newspaper Hammihan. They are both known for their courageous coverage of human rights, women’s issues, and politics.

The Nieman Foundation for Journalism extends an open-ended invitation to Hamedi and Mohammedi to personally attend a ceremony at Harvard to accept their award after they are released from prison.
