Dubai Aims to Become the First in the Modest Fashion Market

The modest fashion industry is becoming increasingly competitive. There are more and more leading global apparel brands and retailers entering to attract. And, mainstream media is writing more stories about the modest fashion market, and its consumers.

With bigger companies, such as Dolce Gabbana‘s store in Dubai, entering modest fashion, there are concerns of an increasing disconnect with the end consumers. There has been a tremendous growth of independent smaller brands catering toward Muslim consumers. But, well-capitalized leaders in the apparel industry are also entering the market. These mega-brands have little connection with Muslim-based consumers, according to the State of the Global Islamic Economy Report 2018-19.

Gulf News released a new video about the role Dubai tries to play to become the center stage for the modest fashion industry. In this video, they feature Mohammad Saeed Al Shehhi, chief executive officer of Dubai Design District, Faiza Bouguessa, designer and founder of Dubai-based modestwear brand Bouguessa, and Dima Ayad, designer and public relations/marketing director at The Modist.
