War is for ugly, peace is for beautiful

International Peace Day banner. 21 September. Dove with olive branch

Today is an International Day of Peace. There are number of peace symbols that have been used to celebrate “Peace.” The Dove and Olive Branch was used by early Christians.

Picasso turned thy symbols into an internationally recognizable sign of peace.

After his wild success of Guernica, the world’s most famous anti-war painting, Picasso was invited to create a symbol for ‘peace.’ His Dove of Peace was chosen as the emblem for First International Peace Conference in Paris in 1949.

In the 1950s Gerald Holtom designed a logo for the British Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.

The logo was adopted by anti-war and counterculture activists in the US and elsewhere.

Happy International Day of Peace.
